What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Common dental emergencies include: severe toothache or abscess, a broken, cracked, or fractured tooth, a knocked-out (avulsed) tooth, a lost filling or crown that is causing pain or sensitivity, a broken dental appliance causing injury, and swelling or infection in the mouth or jaw. When in doubt, call us — we would rather help you determine over the phone if it is an emergency than have you suffer unnecessarily.
What To Do Before You Arrive
For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse gently with water, and attempt to reinsert it in the socket. If that is not possible, keep it moist in milk or between your cheek and gum. Time is critical — reimplantation is most successful within 30–60 minutes. For severe pain or swelling, call us immediately so we can advise you while you make your way to our office.

If a tooth is too damaged or infected to save, we can usually take it out the same day you come in — not leave you waiting in pain for a second appointment. Dr. Baker performs extractions in-house, from simple to surgical. Your $69 emergency exam and X-rays tell us whether the tooth can be saved before anything is removed. If it cannot, we will walk you through replacement options like a dental implant before you leave.
